Dubai is taking work-life balance to the next level this summer with a new 4-day work week and shortened hours now officially rolled out for public sector employees.
Starting July 1, government workers across Dubai will enjoy more flexible schedules as part of the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ 2025 program. The initiative will run until September 12, giving employees more time for rest, family, and personal priorities during the hottest months of the year.
Dubai’s government employees are now divided into two schedule groups:
- One group works Monday to Thursday with Fridays off.
- The other group works slightly shorter hours during the week and wraps up early on Fridays
This change builds on a successful pilot from 2024, which proved that a shorter week can actually boost productivity and make employees happier. A win-win for both performance and well-being.
What about the Private Sector?
While this flexible model isn’t yet mandatory for private businesses, it’s definitely setting a trend. Studies have shown that when employees are given the flexibility to work smarter, not longer. They tend to perform better and feel more motivated.
There’s also growing talk around remote work, hybrid setups, and non-traditional office hours, especially with the UAE’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation.
